Statement of Intent

What interests or drives you?

The human face tends to interest me; especially the individual features and how they all form unique and different appearances. Therefore with this in mind, I am looking underneath the skin and behind the features which make us so unique.

What materials do you think might best serve your investigations? What media/areas do you intend to explore?

For this project, the materials I'll be using is mainly oil and acrylic paint as well and other areas of dry media such as tonal pencils. Oil paints tend to be more 'fleshy' and tonal creating a more realistic and detailed skin tone, which will work perfectly within my project. The acrylic paints will only be used for the finer detail which may be harder to create with the oil paints. As oil paints take longer to dry as well as being very easily blended, the finer details such as hair or eyelashes will be easier to recreate with acrylic paint; this will create a sharper finish. The tonal pencils however will be used for experimenting with composition, so I wont waste much paint when creating work. Further on in my project I might look further into using texture to create a 3D look to my pieces rather than using paint to establish a life-like finish.

How will you measure your success?

Within this project, I will measure my success in how well I can represent inside the human body as well as the outer appearance. If I am able to recreate a composition where the skin and flesh look realistic I would consider this project a success.
